Big day...Steels up!

In between lockdowns we managed to muster up 10 friends and family to help us list this huge steel beams into place. It was a nerve wracking day and lots of planning to get it right. Keith Collier kindly lent us his genie lift to get the steel from the patio onto the first floor and up into position. It fitted nicely onto the padstones. There was one hiccup though! We measured the internal height not the external height of the verticals of the goal post. As a result it needed lifting up higher than the padstone. A quick call to the structural engineer sorted this issue out. We could raise the goal post into position with the genie and using a plywood mould we put steel rebar and concrete mix on top of the padstone to create a solid base. The new central steel composed of 3 parts fitted together very well (not in photos below). All that was left to do was disc cut the old steel into sections so we could carry it downstairs ready to take to the metal recycling yard.
